The Middle School program is geared to students in grades 6-8 with a developmentally appropriate sequence of classes that aid in progressing from concrete thinking to more abstract thinking. The 6/7th grade program is combined for English, Social Studies, Science, and the Arts, allowing for an interdisciplinary approach to those subjects. The 8th grade program is grade-level specific, with appropriate placements in math and world languages. The curriculum, along with classwork, independent projects, and homework, provides students with a variety of opportunities to grow and develop as thinkers.
PCS is committed to preparing its students for life in an increasingly technology centered world and the middle school curriculum integrates technology at all levels. Middle school students also take drama, fine arts, music and physical education twice a week. In order to help students gain important skills, classes in library skills, research skills and study skills are offered. Some additional activities include student council, dances, class trips in NYC, and students volunteer to support causes as they arise and as time allows.
