Middle School

Middle School is a time of exploration and discovery for young students transitioning into adolescence.  As educators, we help our students to become good learners, team players and well-rounded young people who are compassionate and have a sense of community and togetherness.  We are fortunate to be able to provide a safe place for students to ask questions, to develop their own thoughts and to experience an atmosphere of creative freedom and respect.

We devote time to character building with the understanding that all teachers will become part of the learning experience.  Our focus is to change the mindset of our students from “I can’t do this” to “anything is possible”. Words of encouragement from the adults promote the perfect climate for our students to study, learn and grow.

Our program is appropriately challenging and meets the needs of our diverse and creative learners.  In addition to our core courses, students are expected to attend arts courses on a weekly basis which offer them opportunities to explore their creativity and musicality while also providing them with important skill sets.

We have support systems in place to make sure that our students can balance their academic responsibilities and their professional commitments.  These support systems include regular meetings with advisors, with our learning specialist and most importantly with our teachers. We encourage building relationships and keeping the lines of communication open so that our students can thrive and succeed.

Our Middle School is a special place that is warm, fun, nurturing and supportive.  It’s the perfect place to learn to navigate the teenage years.

Middle School Advisory

While at Professional Children’s School, students are known and cared for by many adults. In addition to developing close working relationships with their classroom teachers, all students at PCS also have individual advisors. Advisory groups are composed of various grade levels so that students can learn from one another. Many activities and discussions focus on academic planning and goal setting, team building, self advocacy, and building empathy through community service.

A Middle School advisor’s role is to support students as they navigate the academic and developmental changes of middle school; providing guidance and serving as a point person when issues arise. The expectation is that we will build a community of thoughtful individuals who care about their academics, their personal well- being as well as others in their communities.

My Favorite Things About PCS
A Poem by Havana, Grade 6

First, what I love about PCS is my friends.
They make me feel safe and comfortable.
Second, I love the teachers.
They are fun, smart, good at their jobs and also chill.
Third, the lunch is so good!
We have the best food.
Fourth, you can be yourself.
You won’t be judged.
Fifth, when you have to do something professional,
The school will understand.
Sixth, everyone is very kind and friendly.
At PCS, people will help you if you need it.
Seventh, it feels like a second home,
Because everyone is like family.
