The Mission of Professional Children’s School is:
to provide a challenging academic education for young people working in or studying for careers in the performing and visual arts, competitive sports and other endeavors;
to meet the diverse needs of our students; provide mastery of fundamental skills and prepare them for college or other post-secondary education;
to teach young people to balance the demands of their professional, personal and academic lives;
to provide support for young people who must often contend with the pressures of the adult world in addition to the normal pressures of adolescence;
to encourage young people to respect others of diverse ethnic, racial, economic, geographic and artistic backgrounds; to balance their individual needs with the needs of others and to accept responsibility for their decisions;
to foster a community in which both academic and artistic pursuits are valued.
To support our Mission, Professional Children’s School strives to:
offer, through classroom instruction and a unique Guided Study Program, a college preparatory education that is expansive and engaging.
teach the skills, structure and logic of each discipline and build an awareness of the interrelationships among various disciplines.
provide opportunities for students with varying skill levels to be successful in their mastery of the curriculum.
encourage all students to take pride in their own academic growth.
reinforce an awareness that each individual is part of larger society and that a recognition of social concerns is fundamental to a young person’s growth as a student, artist and citizen.
maintain, through recruitment, admissions, and financial aid, a diverse student population.
encourage young people to respect others from different ethnic, racial, economic, geographic, academic, personal and artistic backgrounds.
Adopted by the Board of Trustees, December 2000.
